Ordeal Weekends
Ordeal Weekends are opportunities for Arrowmen who have been called out at Summer Camp to be inducted into Taleka Lodge. Ordeal weekends are offered two times a year, one in April and one in August. After being Called Out, Canidates have one year to attend an Ordeal before their eligibility expires.
Fellowship Weekends
Fellowship weekends happen two times a year, one in April and one in August. They happen at the same time as the Ordeal weekends. These weekends are for Order of the Arrow members who want to come out to camp and have a weekend full of fun activities, some training, and some service to either Camp Joy or Camp Vandeventer. Activities and themes in the past have consisted of karaoke night, casino night, baseball night, disco night, and "ski entertainment" night. These weekends are great oppurtunities to meet new arrowmen from the lodge and have a lot of fun!
Summer Camp
The Order of the Arrow has numerous events through out the week that arrowmen and non arrowmen can participate in. Monday through Thursday, the Brotherhood class is held after meritbadge classes. The cost of the Brotherhood Class covers the sash and is determined before Summer Camp starts. On Tuesday night, an ice-cream social is held at the Ruehl Lodge for all Order of the Arrow members. On Wednesday, the Order of the Arrow hosts a camp service project for any one who wishes to participate. This is not limited to Order of the Arrow members. On Thursday, the Brotherhood ceremony is performed by the Lodge's Ceremonial team. On Friday, the Order of the Arrow Call-out Ceremony takes place after the closing campfire.
Winter Banquet
The Winter Banquet is a formal dinner for Taleka Lodge. It is held in the begining of January every year. At this banquet many awards are presented and arrowmen are reconized for service to the Lodge in the past years. There is also a silent auction in which you can purchase patches, gift certificates, and many other interesting items. Any one is invited to Taleka Lodge's Winter Banquet. It is a great family event.
Section Conclave
Section Conclave is a gathering of the six lodges in our Section: Taleka, Kishkakon, Shawnee, Ampetu-We, Nampa-Tsi, and Black Hawk. Friday night is filled with different activities and a cracker barrel. Saturday morning is full of training sessions, where you can learn anything from ceremonies to different methods of cooking to ways you can help lead in your lodge or troop. In the afternoon, there are tons of different fun activites. Lastly, on Saturday night is a show and another cracker barrel. Section Conclave is usualy held in September or October. It is a great opportunity to meet Brothers from this area for only $25-$30.
Community Service
As one of the fundamentals the Order of the Arrow is founded upon, Taleka Lodge serves the community in numerous projects yearly. Each Chapter holds a yearly service project in their Community as part of the One Day of Service. These projects have included trash cleanup along roads, trail maintenance at state parks, fundraisers for local charities and numerous other projects.
Service to Council
Taleka Lodge also serves the Okaw Valley Council. One of the many ways Taleka Lodge serves the Council is through camping promotion. When the Chapter Unit Election Team comes to troops to run their elections they also promote Camp Joy Summer Camp. At the Spring and Fall Fellowship, the Order of the Arrow serves the council in camp service projects. These weekends help repair and maintain essential parts of the camp, so it can offer outstanding program to scouts during the camping season. The individual chapters of the Lodge also help, where it is needed, at district camporees. Taleka Lodge donates to Friends of Scouting and helps pay for certain camp improvements, annually.
